Empowering college students through a unique learning journey How might we address the ‘skills gap’ between undergraduate education and workforce readiness? Challenge & Outcome Students are well aware of the soft skills needed to thrive in the workforce, yet they are often not receiving the adequate preparation that they seek and deserve. At the same time, recent retirees are eager to give back to the next generation of leaders and visionaries, yet currently there are very few employment opportunities that take advantage of their expertise. Through an exploratory process of primary and secondary research we identified an opportunity space to empower college students and recent retirees through a mutually beneficial learning journey. Our service offering called MUVE involved an online platform and several in person touchpoints, so that students and advisors could work closely to help the students achieve their skills. A deep immersion in understanding the dynamics of each stakeholder was crucial to create a business model and a service ecosystem that benefit all platform users. Which features will allow students and advisors to successfully navigate the experience?. What’s the benefit for colleges? and for businesses? After analyzing the competitive landscape we created MUVE’s Value Proposition and Brand Experience. Later on we defined the Critical Success Factors, the Operational Plan, the Go To Market Strategy and the Implementation Roadmap. Also, a detailed financial analysis allowed us to understand the feasability of our long-term plan. Finally, our business plan was presented to a jury consisting of venture capital and entrepreneurship experts.
